Multimodal Project: What is your tentative plan?

In 250 words, write what you are thinking about doing for your multimodal project. You might want to mention your topic, what aspect of your previous research you will focus on, what the purpose of your message will be, who you see as your audience, the types of platforms that you are considering using and why, and what ideas you have for creating in that platform. This is just a starting point for discussion and planning. If you have questions or concerns--and probably everyone does at this stage--include them in your post.

  1. For my multimodal project, I am thinking about using Prezi. It would show nice fluid transitions between photographs and quotes. My topic includes architecture, creativity, and design so I was going to use pictures taken from around my studio to represent the first aspect of architecture and other design professions. To represent creativity and design, I think I was going to incorporate quotes from the people I previously interviewed and include pictures varying from them, their projects, or their doodles. For some of these I also might simply include my own doodles that correspond to what they have said. In addition to only these three people I interviewed, I also plan to use information that was presented to me in my CAP classes, like I did in my research paper as well. If I do not have enough information then I might interview a few other CAP professors that I have.
So for this project as a whole it will show how creativity and design effect design professions, which includes architecture instead of me actually having to explain it. The main part of this project will be quotes, photographs, and drawings. I plan to have the majority of my information from my interviews since these topics cannot be exactly pinpointed but rather it is just a generally accepted opinion. To make this more creditable I might use various information from a couple of my sources that I also used in my research paper.
The purpose of this will be to show exactly how creativity and design is selective, based on personal opinion, and also accepted as a whole. It will also explain how important these two aspects are in life and also in these careers. My audience will include various people. It can include parents because it will teach them on how to not limit their children. It can include students in these professions as to help encourage creative designs. It can also include these design professionals who chose to become teachers so that they, just like parents, can teach without limitations.

For the final project, I have several ideas about my topic and the way I will present it. First, I must pick my specific topic, for which I have three ideas. My research paper was a collection of research about advanced practice nursing that served to help me answer the question of what I wanted to be. Many subtopics were introduced in my paper, leaving me with many choices for my smaller topic.
My first idea was that I could present my research with the intent to teach my audience about the four types of advanced practice nursing. However, I believe that, while it may serve my purposes, it could potentially be uninteresting to my audience. If I was to decide to go this route, I would have to make it interesting and fun.
Next, I had the idea to inform my audience about the choice I made at the end of my paper after I had researched each type of advanced practice nursing. I could easily tell my audience all that I know about nurse anesthetists, possibly with a PowerPoint or an online magazine article. This could also be uninteresting to those in the class, so I would have to make it fun and interesting.
My favorite idea so far, though, is to chronicle my journey through my research and the phases of my (hilarious) decision-making process. For this, I plan to make a comic strip or an animated story. I think this would be an interesting way to present this topic.

For my project I plan to make and present an online magazine. I like the magazine idea because it is unique and creative. I will be using the online magazine developer Issuu to go about this. I expect to combine articles with photos as a way to get my point across. I also think it will relate to my idea because you can always find advertisements in magazines.

My presentation is obviously going to be consistent and discuss sex in advertising and media. I am going to use many different parts of my paper within the magazine. I will show multiple ads that people view as “raunchy” and possibly even some commercials. This is a way of showing the audience what my paper is in a way they can associate with. The audience has seen such advertisements a million times and it will be a way for me to gain feedback on the ads. I plan to ask if they wanted to buy the product because of the way it was being represented and more in-depth questions. There will also be text about my story. The text will be placed like actual magazine articles. Their will be bold print and multiple pull quotes.

I will not use my magazine as the only way to show my audience the importance of sex in advertising; I plan to use my personal experience with these ads as well. I want to stress how this topic influences society on a daily basis throughout my project.

  4. For my multimodal project, I have decided to keep working on the same theme I worked on my previous project, the Inca civilization. For this project, I plan to do a website. The main objective of my multimodal project will be to inform people how Inca civilization developed and become an empire. In order to understand the greatness and the accomplishments of the Inca Empire, I will show some of the wonders done by the Incas, I will illustrate the regions and ecosystems that made up the Inca Empire, I will explain some of the facts that contributed to the rise of the Inca Empire. Also, I will show and talk about the road system and building structure where the Incas operate. For example, I will show constructions such as Machu Picchu, built on top of the mountains and explain how and when they were discovered, also I will show and describe the famous Nazca lines of Peru. In addition to the above, with this website, I will give some tips for those who like to travel. So, the website will serve also as a guide for tourists.

My target audience will be very general, hence, this website will combine history, description, photos, and information about the stunning Andean landscapes and the wonderful remnants of one of the oldest ancient civilizations in pre-Columbian America. For example, I will show photographs of temples, ceramics, tools, cities, and one of the most fascinating lakes in the world, Lake Titicaca. Also, I will show colonial churches, museums, restaurants, pubs, and bars in Cuzco. In addition to this, I will provide information on festivals, transport, maps, and other activities.

  5. My multimodal project will likely focus on only one aspect of my paper (basically one subheading), though I’m not sure which part of that I’d like to focus on. It’s also occurred to me that I could elaborate on my findings in my paper, perhaps about the simplicity of a friends service, and compare those to what my home church’s service looks like. To do this, I thought I might employ a video camera at the next service I attend (which will be this Sunday), because I recently learned how to use iMovie for another class. I’d like to put these two ideas together in a website, which I learned how to custom-create for yet another class. One concern I have with this is that I will have only a few days to coordinate with my acquaintances that may be able to lend me a camera. Another concern is that this Sunday will be our Easter service, and probably a bit out of the ordinary for my church, so it may not provide a valid sample of a modern Friends church. Alternately, I could use a camera (maybe even my webcam) to capture a short interview or two about what members of my congregation think about how our services are distinctive from others, modern and historic. I’ve not really ironed out the details, but I think this project will allow me to focus on a smaller portion of my topic than I tried to focus on in my paper, which will make for a more finite and concise finished product.

  6. I am going to be making an Xtranormal animation about the relocation process. I have a professional male speaking to an upcoming college graduate. He is giving her advice about how to move on after college. The girl has two job offers one from her home town and one in the ‘Big City’. She is playing clueless and has no idea anything about relocation. She thinks you just up and move. I am going to use the factors to consider before moving that are listed in the individual move section of my research paper to tell this girl what to consider before moving for a job. I think that this is a topic that our class can relate to, because almost all of them will be relocating after graduation, even if they are just moving back to their hometowns. I am excited for this project, and I hope that it will help my fellow classmates out when they are thinking about moving for a job. If a college student is successful, they should hopefully receive many job offers before graduation. They need to look into different factors before choosing the job that is the best for them. This animation will make this situation seem comical, but it will have a clear message and will give the information needed in a comical manner.

  7. For the multimodal project I am weighing towards creating some type of website. With my research paper being on the effects of the Internet on children it’s only fitting to incorporate the Internet into the project. By creating A website I believe it would be easier to target those who do overuse the Internet and are unaware of the risks involved. I plan on breaking down my website in a similar fashion to that of my research paper, with the main focus being on physical, psychological, and educational effects of the Internet on children. I plan on using both text and video to support my topic. I am also considering setting up my website somewhat like a blog where visitors can leave their own personal thoughts and ideas on the topic. My main purpose for my project is to inform. Much of the information in my research paper is unknown to many individuals, and with this mulitmodal project I hope to be able to inform and educate people better on the topic.

  8. The topic of my multimodal project is obviously going to be about Milltown, but I am going to narrow my focus down to how the people I interviewed really gave me a new understanding on how to look at life, having a family, growing up in the past, and their passion and pride for the town. The different people I interviewed were of different ages ranging from twenty to eighty-four. Their knowledge about the town really helped me gather what I needed for my essay, but their personal anecdotes and stories really got to me. The purpose of this project will be to inform my classmates how these people that I had met many times before had so much wisdom and stories with them and all it took was for me to ask them questions to reveal them.

I plan on making a power point presentation, incorporating pictures and quotes from the interviewees. A main point that I want to stress is that I have always been a Miller but I never really understood what that truly meant through my life until I spoke to these people. I plan to start off showing a few pictures of my life growing up and my family and then moving along to the interviewees in the town and how they told me stories about my family that I had never heard, as well as stories that happened in the town. Some of the quotes from these people I featured in my big essay but I

  9. For my multimodal project I am either going to create a presentation through Prezi or make a website on Moonfruit. I think these two options would be the best choices to get my information on vaccines across. I think the most important aspect, and therefore what I will focus on, is why it is so important for children to be vaccinated. My audience will be parents. The purpose of my multimodal project will be to give them positives and negatives of vaccines, but show them that the positives outweigh the negatives. In using Prezi or Moonfruit I will be able to get multiple points across on the topic of vaccines. I will be able to have links to more informative websites such as the Centers for Disease Control incorporated into my multimodal project. Also, I will be able to put in pictures of the side effects of vaccines such as the red swelling that can occur after being vaccinated. I will be able to provide a lot of information through Prezi or Moonfruit, which will be helpful for parents to have an informed decision on vaccines.

  10. For my final project I plan on creating an innovative commercial design. My commercial will not be selling anything, just the idea of eating whole foods rather than supplementing vitamins. To prove my point I will use triathletes as an example of not consuming these unnecessary supplements.
Multiple images will be used. These images will be a collection of photos of all the triathletes I have met or known from the past. I may use my Dad’s images from when he started out as a triathlete till now showing his body age slightly. These images will play out fast within 45 seconds or so. The impression is to show if a triathlete who eat healthy just from whole foods still does not need vitamins, why should anyone else need to take these unnecessary supplements to stay healthy? During the video I will play inspirational music of some sort the song will not be specified till later. It will be bright and vivid images that goes along with this music.
Towards the end of the commercial I will stop the music and collaborate my voice over the last couple images of whole foods and vitamin supplements. The voice over will say something along the lines of Be Aware. That way the message about not taking vitamins is short and sweet to the point. The final image will be such as “vitamins can be a drug too don’t abuse.” Below that bold line I’ll put “ask a doctor before taking any kind of supplement” in smaller text. This will be my conclusion.

  11. My topic that I will be using for my multimodal project is the history of marriage and its relationship with women’s rights. In my research paper, I explained all the rights a woman was limited when she became a wife in early America. So I have decided that with my multimodal project I will take my topic one step further and put my audience in the position of a wife in early America. Introduce her daily routine and the struggles she faced by not having the same rights as a man. The purpose of my presentation will be to make my audience realize how far women’s rights have come since the seventeenth century—my audience being an group uneducated on the rights that were taken away from a women once married in early America. It is my plan to use PowerPoint to do my multimodal project. I debated using Pecha Kucha, however, after learning more about it I decided it did a lot of the same things that a PowerPoint could. So, since I am better acquainted with the PowerPoint software, I thought it would be easier. The PowerPoint will allow me to navigate from slide to slide while incorporating sound and help me introduce my audience to the life of a wife in early America. From my knowledge of the rights that were kept from wives I will construct situations where a wife in early America would be disadvantaged. So my only question would be if that would be acceptable to do.

For my multimodal project, I need to carefully pick which form of presentation I will choose. In my research paper, I focused on how the legalization of the pant genus Cannabis would help in aiding our ailing economy. Seeing as how cannabis, aka marijuana, is a very touchy topic, I need to make sure that the way in which I present it will be taken professionally and with good intentions. I will focus specifically on how hemp, C. sativa sativa, is the most beneficial form of cannabis since it can be used in over 25,000 products. In order to show what these are, I am planning on doing something along the lines of an online magazine. By making it a magazine, I can use each page, article, or chapter to focus on specific benefits that can be gained through its use. These will be divided into different topics, such as medical benefits, physical products and every day uses, and food.

For this project, my targeted audience will be those between about 18 and 50. Since the elders of our nation are stubborn in their thoughts and have been raised with the mindset of cannabis being evil and wrong in every way, I will not be that successful in trying to convince them of its usefulness or proving that it is not so evil. The younger generations will be able to understand and hopefully relate to what I am saying, as they are focused on the future of our nation and hopefully fixing its national debt.

  13. The plan thus far for my multimodal project is to create a website or powerpoint. My focus will be on many of the statistics I gathered from my research, which I believe will be a perfect integration into my website. By displaying the information on a webpage, it can be easily accessed and understood by my audience. In this case, not only is my audience the English 104 classroom, but also young adults who should become informed about the issues regarding care in health facilities.

I have not decided my exact main focus yet, but it will have something to do with health facilities slacking on patient care. This results in increased readmission rates, hospitals having to pay for their mistakes, and even death. This topic is extremely relevant in that many of us will become hospitalized at some point in our lives. Therefore the more informed we are now, the better. Also, many students in our class are interested in the health care field, so this topic is very easy to relate to.

  15. For my multimodal project, I intend to continue to further divulge the links between Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS) to the consumption of alcohol during pregnancy. Not only will the project focus on the effects of alcohol on a developing fetus, but the detrimental effects drug abuse can cause as well. To present this information, I will either use a PowerPoint presentation, or attempt the Pecha Kucha to ensure that the information will not be mundane.
By using the Pecha Kucha or PowerPoint, I feel as though I will be able to educate the audience as much as possible on the symptoms associated with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome by means of numerous pictures and case studies. Also, statistics will be presented to highlight the increasing diagnoses of this 100% preventable condition. From this point, I need to figure out more aspects of my project to focus on-possibly unveil the need for treatment facilities for expecting mothers to seek help to treat their addiction and substance abuse.
The audience for this project will be both genders. However, this will primarily be targeted at young expecting mothers who are not educated thoroughly on the teratogenic effects alcohol has on the brain and other development factors for the child. After presenting this material, I hope the audience recognizes the severity of this disease, as well as the growing need to help treat mothers suffering from addiction to both drugs and alcohol to hinder the cases of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome altogether.

  16. For the multimodal project that I will be creating about a Designer culture, I will be utilizing the benefits of a brochure. In this I will describe how the designer baby culture related to the German Nazi culture, and how it will affect a make-believe family when something in the genetic engineering process goes awry. Through using sources and information that I have already gathered I will be able to compile a public service announcement through the brochure explaining the pros and cons of genetic engineering as a whole.
Not only will I focus on genetic engineering of humans, but also on crops and animals for food. I have in my reservoir of statistics a few that involve the percentages of people who would and would not eat genetically altered animals on a daily basis. The thing is, they already do. In this brochure, I will be delving into the ways that genetically altered creatures are already acclimated into our world.
The next main topic that I will address would be the Doogie mice and how they have influenced the scientific world. Through their use and creation, it is understood how the VMAT2 gene can be depleted, amplified or completely re-written. The Doogie Mice are a great example of how the world could be affected through the use of science to create a new and “improved” race of human beings.
The audience for my brochure will be people ranging from the ages of older teens to adults of all ages.

  17. For my final project I will most likely do a PowerPoint presentation. I am not sure what I will cover in it regarding my topic though. There are many different areas that I am highly interested in and want to focus on more. I am continuing my research and may incorporate some new material that was not in my paper.
I might focus on what types of training and therapy will decrease the likelihood that soldiers will develop mental disorders, and what family members and friends can do to help. My audience will be the general public because I believe every US citizen should be involved in this issue. I hope to find ways that ordinary people can help support and boost the morale of troops, whether it is before, during, or after deployment.
I also want people to be more aware and informed about PTSD and other mental health issues among veterans. The topic seems to carry a sense of gloom and the people with these disorders are portrayed as so mysterious. This is mainly because people (veterans, families, doctors, etc.) do not know how to deal with the issue. Improvements and discoveries are being made that make it more understandable, thus less daunting. It seems as though everywhere I turn, someone has published another book about the war in Iraq and what the troops endure. The more that people learn about their situations, the more preventable and treatable their problems will be. Although it is unrealistic to end the development of disorders entirely, they can be minimized and made more controllable.

  18. My multimodal project will consist of a PowerPoint and a few handouts. I plan on discussing the benefits of genealogy, mainly the family history that can be acquired just by researching family history. The PowerPoint will consist of my main points about genealogy, while the handouts will have my family history on them. The handout will have my family tree, which my grandpa created, on the inside and possibly a family story on the back. The PowerPoint will define what genealogy is, how to research it, and the many benefits a person can receive from knowing their family history. In the PowerPoint and the handout I will include how interesting it is to find out various information about family. I will mainly focus on the benefits and shortly discuss the how to part. It would be too confusing if I focused on how to research family history, so I will discuss the benefits since those are easier to grasp. I will be discussing people and some of my information may be in black and white, because of the time period it was created in. I do not plan on including music or voices. I will keep the audience’s interest by talking about the technology available which makes genealogy more interesting, compared to the typical stereotype that researching genealogy is boring. My presentation will not be a “how to” research genealogy, but more focused on the benefits of knowing more about someone’s family history and how to continue on the tradition.

  19. Tori's post:

My research paper explored the topic of religion and acts of spirituality and their effects on mental illnesses, more specifically, those including depression, anxiety and personality disorders (the leading mental illnesses). Throughout my paper, I focused on three main concepts of the issue: the historical context of the matter, including tensions between the institutions of religion and medical sciences, the negative effects of religion on mental illnesses and the positive effects of religion on mental illnesses. Because my main stance on the subject was that healthy practices of religion and acts of spirituality are beneficial to overall health and improvement of mental illness, I will be encompassing that aspect within my multimodal project somehow.

My initial plan is to create a presentation through Prezi. Gearing my material in a way that targets the audience, my pears, I would like to do something about struggles of college and how stressors college students can lead to mild forms of depression, but centering the presentation around means of coping with stressors that are interactive with spirituality, by providing ideas on how to do so either through places and ways to experience quiet alone time or even through some type of religious involvement. I understand that the majority of the audience is secular, so I want to present my material in a way that is engaging of spirituality simply by a greater connection with one’s self, as religious involvement isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. This is my original idea, I’m not sure how I will create it, or even will present on the same subject, but it’s an initial act of brain storming.

  20. Javonte's post:

The primary focus of my multimedia project will be the relay the message discussed in my research essay. I will inform, and attempt to provide justifications for the fragility of the African American psyche to my classmates. However, I intend to be very subtle in my rhetoric of persuasion. I am considering using a power point presentation, or a customized Civil Rights pamphlet. I want to avoid overwhelming my audience with information and historical facts; rather I would like to deliver my information, and argument in a very succinct manner. My literal audience will be my classmates, but in theory my targeted demographic is our current generation.
